ThisIsNotConsent

Here at The Noisy Movement, we see the value in everyone. We want to be a catalyst for positive change, and since our beginnings in 2018, we’ve been driven by the same ideas we initially founded our Nonprofit Organization upon: support, empowerment, and progress.

TINC Right-Measurement - Campaign-Banner

This is the first-ever campaign launched by The Noisy Movement, inspired by a case in Cork in 2018 in which a 17-year old’s lace underwear was shown to the jury as evidence of her consent to sexual acts. Style, type, ‘sexiness’ or material of underwear does not indicate giving consent, the only thing that indicates consent is an enthusiastic “YES”.

Lace, silk or thong, rape is always wrong.

Since the beginning, The Noisy Movement has been making noise for those who can’t. There is still such a lack of education around consent and sexual assault, whether you think about the fact that it is not taught in SexEd, or about the lack of visibility in mainstream media outlets, or the normalisation of rape jokes - think back to the Warwick Uni group chat scandal a little while ago. Such a lack of education can make it difficult to speak out, and our #ThisIsNotConsent campaign aims to normalise noise surrounding consent and sexual assault.

The #ThisIsNotConsent campaign is not just about raising awareness or noise, it’s also about raising money. We have held fundraisers in aid of Rape Crisis Scotland and Women’s Aid, both charities that put the money to good use and continue to improve the lives of both women and men across the country.

We have held open mic nights, club events at Sneaky Pete’s and Mash House, balls at the swanky Balmoral hotel, and bag sales. Our bag sales are undeniably popular, and it is so satisfying to walk around campus, see our bags and think, that’s OUR bag!! And we couldn’t have done it without you: over the 2019-2020 school year, we raised a whopping £600 for Rape Crisis Scotland, as well as an additional £740 for Women’s Aid in association with GirlUp. Also, check GirlUp out, they’re fab!

The future of #ThisIsNotConsent is incredibly exciting, and the whole team at The Noisy Movement cannot wait to show you what we have in store!

Noie4Boys

This campaign is all about focusing on making noise for male mental health. There is so much stigma around the mental health and well-being of men, and this has drastic and undeniable real-life consequences.

Suicide is the most common cause of death for men under 50, it is a silent killer for men and boys and therefore it is so important that we make Noise4Boys.

Noise4Boys was launched in October 2019 in association with the Edinburgh University Predators American Football team. We fundraise for Edinburgh Crisis Centre, a service providing 24/7 community-based support for anyone struggling with their mental health or well-being.

Our fabulous designers produced the first-ever Noise4Boys water bottle, which we sold first at our launch party at The Counting House where we raised £825 for Edinburgh Crisis Centre, and then later at our bag sales and over events for £5.

Through this campaign, not only are we raising money for the Crisis Centre to continue to make an impact on the mental health of the people of Edinburgh, but we are also hoping to break the stigma and shame around men making noise about their mental health. We hope to show that making noise about mental health is acceptable and encouraged.

We are looking forward to continuing to develop this campaign over this academic year, so expect even more from Noise4Boys!
