Re-energised & Ready to Make Some NOISE!

Hello and welcome to another year at The Noisy Movement!

With a new committee & a return to in-person activism, we have so much fantastic work planned for this year that we can’t wait to share with you!

A bit of background about us, our group was created in reaction to the rape trial in Cork, November 2018, where a 17-year old's lace pants were used by the defense as an indication of her consent. Our founders created The Noisy Movement in order to raise awareness and funds for groups in society that need our support. We are a social enterprise at The University of Edinburgh that strives to enact change in both our academic and non-academic communities.

We are currently running two activist campaigns: ThisIsNotConsent & Noise4Boys.

Our #thisisnotconsent campaign has been running since our inception and we are excited to continue its work this year. Our current goal for the year is to introduce a consent & sexual well-being curriculum to onboarding students at the university.

In the past, our #noisy4boys campaign has collaborated with Edinburgh’s American Football Society and raised money for the Edinburgh Crisis Centre. We are currently brainstorming campaign ideas for this upcoming year and are excited to get this campaign up and running again!

During the COVID-19 pandemic, The Noisy Movement shifted all its activity online and so we are very keen to bring back in-person activism this year. Even with all of the struggles of the past year and a half our team was able to complete a lot of energizing and meaningful projects! We designed and relaunched our new website, posted some fun and insightful blog posts, were featured on an episode of the FreshAir podcast, hosted a Christmas raffle raising £214 for Edinburgh Crisis Centre, raised awareness during Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week, and raised over £1000 for Edinburgh Crisis Centre through our #Space2Breathe Campaign in which we challenged ourselves to work out every day in the month of March (we managed to walk, cycle, and run 1120 km and climb 9553m!).

We are so proud of the work we did last year and can’t wait to continue being NOISY!!
